The Bumpy Road Ahead Of IPTV In Israel

In August Israel will begin the transition from Analog to Digital TV. In the current situation in order to be able to watch channel 1,2, and 10 you must sign-up to either cable TV or terrestrial TV for a hefty monthly fee. Digital TV offers to change this.

1968 marked the first TV broadcast in Israel. We at Crictor assume the transition from analog TV to IPTV will be much shorter. As Norit Dabosh chairman of the second authority for TV and Radio says in this interview, IPTV promises to dramatically cut costs and this should probably provide at least one insensitive to the switch especially with broadcasters current financial situation.

Are we heading towards a period of consolidation between media's? The answer is Yes. Bezeq, Israel's phone carrier is in the process of putting the NGN infrastructure that will allow a minimum of 50MB capacity to Israeli homes.

However it seems the great possibilities are at the hands of the mobile operators who may in the future offer wireless VOIP, IPTV and Internet access be it at home or outside the home and by doing so may open the advertising business to many new possibilities.

But in order to do that, Pelephone's CEO and the other 2 Israeli operators will need to decide if they are playing a hide and-go-sneak game with their users by blocking sites and VOIP services or playing transparent and honest. Modesty would also be a great virtue.
